Scoping Workshop
A scoping workshop is the starting point for structured trend management and ensures that your subsequent search, evaluation, and analysis are aligned as well as possible with your individual goals.
What is a scoping workshop?
The scoping workshop is a short, focused work process in which you clarify, together with relevant stakeholders:
- Which topics, industries, technologies, or questions are of particular interest to us?
- What goals are we pursuing in trend management?
- Which actors (internal and possibly external) should be involved?
A clearly defined search field saves time later on and sharpens trend selection and evaluation.
How a scoping workshop runs
- Preparation: Invite all relevant participants and, if possible, prepare initial market or company information and trend examples. Set a clear agenda and objective for the workshop.
- Defining topics and goals: Discuss together which thematic areas you want to identify trends in. Define what goals your trend management process pursues. Are you looking for short-term innovations, long-term future trends, potential risks, or growth opportunities?
- Defining search fields and stakeholders: Decide together which search fields will be the focus of the further trend process. Collect who should be involved as a stakeholder.
- Next steps and documentation: Record all results in a structured way, e.g. in a summary in the Trendmanager Workspace. Define who carries out the next steps, such as running the first trend scans or splitting into working groups.
